Ecowellness Program

At Austin Discovery School, our Ecowellness program fosters a lifelong love for environmental stewardship through immersive, nature-based education. Every day, students experience and interact with the natural world, whether it’s through hiking, tending our gardens, or caring for our animals. By integrating hands-on learning into their daily routines, students gain a deep appreciation for the environment and their role in preserving it.

In Ecowellness class, students engage in meaningful activities like planting and cultivating food and butterfly gardens. Studying plant life cycles and the ecosystems they nurture, helps them connect scientific concepts to real-world applications. With their harvests, students prepare nutritious meals, deepening their understanding of the food chain and the effort involved in sustainable living.

Research has shown that interacting with animals and nature has a calming effect on the nervous system. Our program leverages these benefits to create a serene and supportive environment where students can thrive emotionally and socially. The time spent outdoors not only enhances their learning but also nurtures their mental well-being, encouraging mindfulness and resilience, and creating meaningful connections to nature.
